Butt Out!
Friday, January 12th, 2007No, I’m not trying to tell you to mind your own business but I did come across a site that offers a challenge for smokers. Driven to Quit is Canadian based and helps smokers reach their goal and the best part is, you enter a contest and you may win a prize while doing it!Registration will begin on January 22. Information is not yet posted on how to enter, what the prizes are or if it is open to other than Canadian citizens. I intend to check back later to see what it is all about. I’ll take help wherever I can find it!
From what I can see about it, it appears to be in conjunction with the Canadian Cancer Society.
I picked up “The Four D’s” here to help with withdrawal and I’ll pass them along:
- Delay - Most cravings will pass in a few minutes.
- Distract - Take your mind off smoking by thinking of something else to do.
- Deep breathing - Breathe in slowly and deeply and then breathe out.
- Drink water - Take a sip of water and hold it in your mouth for a while.
Many smokers also experience withdrawal symptoms when they quit. It can help to think of withdrawal as recovery symptoms, signs that your body and mind are repairing themselves.
Symptoms such as irritability, headaches and trouble sleeping are temporary, and there are ways to deal with them:
- try some relaxation exercises
- listen to your favourite music
- reduce your caffeine intake.
Good luck to you if you decide to enter the contest.
