You are lucky to be able to see this father/son competitor. I think writing the White House about them is a fabulous idea. I think that not many people are aware of their story and it is one of the most moving things I have ever read. Unfortunately, unless you can get an "inside line" to the White House, you only get a form letter in response.

Anyone know of an address where the President might actually get to see the mail?

Thanks for sharing with us, Sauerkraut.

I've known the Hoyts for nearly 25 yeras. Maybe more. At first, a number of us Boston-area runners thought the idea of a somewhat large guy pushing a kid in a wheelchair - they weren't nearly as lightweight as they are now - was funny and/pr absurd. But they did okay. After a few years, and having had more exposure to guys like Bobby Hall and Jack Coakley, the idea wasn't as purposperous as it was inspirational. When Rick enrolled at BU, the only people raising their eyebrows were those who hadn't seen him and his father at countless roadraces during the prior 8-10 years. As much as I like seeing Rick out there, I am simply amazed at the work his father has done pushing him around. Maybe it's time a few of us from around the country start writing to the jogger up in the White House and suggest Dick Hoyt be recognized for his dedication as a parent. The man lives the life, not merely mouths his affections.
