All seven, and we’ll watch them fall
Tuesday, January 9th, 2007Okay, am I the only one who remembers that Prince song? Yeahhh, I probably am, but I don’t care. I’m using it as my post title because I did a seven-miler today — my longest run in quite a while! It was fun to watch the miles “fall” away as I ran.
I think my longest run ever was about 10 or 11 miles. I’m not yet scheduled for seven-milers according to my training plan, but I had a little extra time yesterday and I’d been getting a little bored of my daily 4 mile loop, so I decided to try and explore a new neighborhood where I’d never run before. It meant running a little over half a mile on a pretty busy street, which is never fun (car danger, broken concrete, exhaust fumes, etc.), but it was worth it. I ran about 2 miles through the new neighborhood, which is really cute and has some nice loops that I think are about a quarter mile–good for some 400 or 800 repeats when they come up in my training schedule.
Finding a convenient new place to run is a really good motivator. It can get so tiring doing the same loop day after day! I’m already planning to head out to the Wolf Ridge Loop in the Marin Headlands (check out Trails.com for really cool trail maps and info — good for running, biking, hiking, or whatever!) this weekend, and I’m really excited. I’ve always resisted the idea of driving somewhere in order to work out, but when the scenery is beautiful, it kind of makes sense!
So all is going well with my resolution — hope you all can say the same!

Wow, so you almost doubled your run! I don’t think I could walk that far! You must have been in great shape before you even began training for this. What was your normal routine before?
Glad to hear you are so enthused and successful so far, keep up the good work!
