This Really Moved Me

If you are not taking your New Year’s Resolution to stop smoking seriously, I suggest you pass this article by.

If you are looking for a little shove to reinforce your will power, by all means check it out.

If you’ve been following my progress on this blog, you know that one of my main motivators was my granddaughter and this just hit me very close to home.

For once, I have nothing funny to say. Good luck to all who are trying.

Butt Out!

No, I’m not trying to tell you to mind your own business but I did come across a site that offers a challenge for smokers. Driven to Quit is Canadian based and helps smokers reach their goal and the best part is, you enter a contest and you may win a prize while doing it!

Acceptable Alternative?

A new gel is set to hit the shelves at Walgreen’s. This one does not sanitize your hands, but satisifies your craving for a cigarette. That’s right, just rub it in!

The product, called Nicogel, is the invention of biochemist Dr. John Walters of Great Britain.

Unlike traditional nicotine replacement therapies such as gums and patches,

Raising the Bar

At 10 days into this, I’m still doing pretty good on the cut down method. I even played cards this week and had a couple of drinks, something that would normally have me out on the deck about every 15 minutes…

Talk About an Incentive!

If health issues weren’t enough for people here in Maine to quit smoking, along comes yet another incentive. Our Governor, John Baldacci, in an effort to revise health care in Maine, is looking to raise the cigarette tax to $3.00 a pack.

A Good Day!

I had a really good day yesterday. I kept my total cigarettes for the day down to six!

Okay, so a lot of it had to do with me having my granddaughter in the afternoon, ha ha. So, what I did smoke was before she arrived here, since I don’t smoke when she is here. She did go home around 5 o’clock though, so the rest of the day was all me! I did make a giant step though.  I was able to restrain myself from having that oh-so-enjoyable after dinner cigarette. I don’t think I had any cigarettes at all at night that I can recall.

I’m trying to take a lighthearted approach to this, but believe me, it is by no means easy for me.  And, I’m still afraid I will fail at this, but I have a whole lot more resolve now that I’ve joined this blog. Writing it all down has helped a lot.  Plus, knowing I will have to come in here and write down how I did, ha ha, that is a pretty big incentive!

I hope everybody is still trying hard to stay with their resolution.

Resolution: No negative comments?

I enjoyed this post about criticism, which suggests trying to refrain from making negative comments in the new year:

My purpose of writing this post is in the New Year when everybody is making resolutions (most of which are forgotten the next day) one thought could be I won’t comment negatively until absolutely necessary.

Chugging along

Still going on my easy short runs. I’m starting to get nervous that things will become much harder when the runs get much longer, but I guess I should just suck it up and be glad things are going smoothly so far!

My Progress Report

This post continues my story at Show Me Yours….

I’m still doing pretty well with the cutback method. I may be reaching my goal before the deadline I’ve set for total cessation by April 4. In fact, if I have another coughing fit like I had this morning, it may come a lot sooner!

I thought of another reason to quit. I have high blood pressure and every time I go back to the doctor, she wants to know if I quit yet. It’s getting embarrassing.
