Taking a Day Off

Dear Blog-Diary,

Can a girl get some room to breathe, please? Sometimes, you know, I just need a day off from dieting and exercise.

Excuses get you Nowhere.

Dear Blog-Diary,

I’m sorry I’ve been such a neglectful blogger the past few days; I’ve just been so busy. At the end of the day though, excuses are still only excuses so I apologize and I promise to write more often. It’s just like a New Year’s Resolution. You have to keep at it; you can make excuses, but the only place those are going to get you is right back where you started, fat and unhappy. I’m not making any more excuses about being unhealthy, I may as well be honest with myself.

E for Effort

“The sovereign invigorator of the body is exercise, and of all the exercises walking is the best.” -Thomas Jefferson

So I was looking at quotes and I got to thinking… how do I know these people really said these things? I’ve always loved inspirational quotes, but who decided to write down all these words? Which smart person had a fountain pen or whatever people used back then, and paper and knew to write it down every time someone like T.J. opened their mouth. Makes me want to carry a pen and pencil. Or learn how to write notes on my cell faster.

Inspirational Quotes

Last night + Alexa at the gym = my butt was kicked. Everything hurts soooooooo much more when you’re doing it right. I mean, I’m sure it’s good for you and soreness is a good, happy feeling because it means progress, but for goodness sakes. Dude, it hurts to just be alive right now. No offense to people in the world feeling “real” pain, but man, is it really necessary for me to feel every muscle in my body while typing at my laptop? I think not.

Keys to Successful Dieting

So with renewed enthusiasm I got back on track to my goal. I’ve only got so much time left. I even did a little bit of motivational research and found a great blog about how to achieve New Year’s Resolution success. It talks about seeing yourself accomplishing your goal as a motivation to get there. I’ll admit, I’ve never thought of trying that. Funny, when I think about my wedding and planning it and everything, it started with a vision, and I used that vision to help guide me in all my decisions. Applying that to my resolution makes perfect sense. If I can visualize myself wearing that dress and walking down the aisle feeling better than ever, then surely I can do it!

Fighting with Father Time

No matter how many times it’s been said and tagged as cliché, there are still not enough hours in the day! And there certainly aren’t enough minutes to spare before it’s time to head off to work. At the beginning of this I thought I’d sort of pencil in “give up fast food during weekdays” to my new year’s resolution because the two kind of go hand in hand, but honestly, how am I supposed to say no to a super tasty Double Whopper with Cheese when it’s just a few blocks down the road, takes only moments to eat it’s deliciousness, and no time to prepare?

Finding Fitness, Day 2

If soreness is a direct reflection of effort and success with the goal of losing weight, my first day was a complete and utter success. I could use a masseuse, a hot tub, and a couple Advil. Anyone?

Exciting DVD set!

…and injury. :( Yep, less than two weeks out from the marathon, I have strained my hamstring something awful. It’s the worst thing that’s happened to me thus far, and of course it had to happen close to the end. Hopefully it won’t be so bad, though–I have done the longest runs I’m supposed to do, and all the time until the marathon (which is only TWELVE DAYS away! yipes!) is mostly tapering. I’m scheduled for 3-5 mile runs today, tomorrow, and Thursday, but I hope I can just skip them and start up again on Friday without too much trouble. I don’t think it will be a huge setback provided it heals up in a few days. Better rest than test, I always say… or rather, my friend Brad says to me. And since he’s more experienced at running than I am, I believe him. And though the injury comes at a really bad time in relation to the marathon, it comes at a GREAT time in relation to DVD releases…

Cute horse New Year’s resolutions shirt

Nobody thinks about New Year’s resolutions in July, except maybe me (because I’m actually sticking to mine!–though I am getting more and more terrified as marathon day grows near). I just ran across this adorable New Year’s resolutions sweatshirt featuring some resolutions from horses. The shirt was made by a horse riding group for its members. I’ve only been on a horse a few times in my life, but once I was on one that laid down while I was on it–kind of a terrifying experience! Another rider had to get off to pull it up while I just sort of sat frozen. I guess I needed a little bit more practice before I’d be ready for that horse! Anyway, just a fun little example of New Year’s resolutions about something other than running! I think everyone I know is getting sick of me talking about the marathon, even though they’re actually excited for me. All I can think about is taking days (maybe weeks…) off of running after I finish! Wish me luck…
