Uh oh… I might be in trouble! For the last few weeks, my “long slow” run on Sundays has been 8-9 miles. I’ve definitely been fudging it way more toward the 8 miles (heh), except for two weeks ago when I actually hit 9 (unbelievable!). That was the longest distance I’d ever run in my life, but it was also pretty exhausting!

I’ve been reading The Ultimate Guide to the Boston Marathon blog, where there’s been some interesting discussion about “bandits” running the Boston Marathon. These “bandits” are people who haven’t officially qualified for the Boston Marathon but choose to run it anyway.

So it’s already March and you’re realizing you didn’t keep up with your New Year’s resolution for even two weeks. Maybe your diet plan was undercut by too much stress and too little time, or your resolution to exercise daily was compromised when you pulled a muscle (which still hasn’t healed) by trying to do an hour on the StairMaster on January 1st. Your desire to organize faded away when you realized you couldn’t even find the things you’d wanted to organize. You’re at a bit of a loss, to say the least!

Boston, London, Berlin, Chicago, and New York. These are the World Marathon Majors, and my commitment to San Francisco means I won’t be a part of them this year. No big deal, though–I’ll save Boston for my second marathon (assuming there is one!).

All I can say about this group of guys who ran across the Sahara desert is wow. WOW. I mean, four thousand miles — in some of the worst weather conditions you can imagine! It makes a regular ol’ marathon in a regular ol’ US City look like nothing!

Wow, I wish I had heard about Cause to Run earlier! It’s a great way to raise money for charity while running the San Francisco Marathon. I knew there were a lot of marathons out there for cancer and other causes, but I didn’t know the San Francisco Marathon had a program like this.

I’ve been thinking about trying rock climbing for a while now, and this article about Dean Potter particularly piqued my interest. This guy is an amazing athlete who, with his partner Tim O’Neill, climbed the Nose of El Capitan in Yosemite in 3 hours and 24 minutes (the first ascent up the Nose took 45 DAYS!).

Wow, reading this article about the cost of making bottled water makes me glad I’m a Camelbak user! The calculations done by the article’s author show that it takes 25 liters of water to make a plastic bottle that holds one liter of water — what a discrepancy! I suppose it takes quite a bit of water to make a Camelbak, too, but at least I only have one of those!

I got to go on a cool “run” tonight — I went down to the waterfront to watch the Queen Mary 2 ocean liner set sail to Hawaii! I really wished I could have been on board, since I’ve never been to Hawaii and would love to experience the islands. Still, watching the ship’s departure with tons of other San Franciscans was a treat in itself!
