Celebrities And The Environment

I was watching Fox News the other day and heard about a group called Global Cool. It’s a group that is out to make an environmental difference for our planet. Global Cool is a foundation (Global Cool Foundation UK) and a production company (Global Cool Productions Ltd) that are working together to stir anyone who cares about the planet to do their bit to save the planet they care about. Global Cool is backed by the biggest names in popular entertainment and the biggest brains in environmental science, all of whom know that a billion people x a modest reduction of one tonne (a metric ton) of CO2 per person = a billion less tonnes of carbon and a significant slowdown in global warming.

They are supported by private donations which they then invest in things like energy reduction projects and alternative energy projects.

Global Cool has established the support of many high-profile artists around the world in offsetting the CO2 generated by their live tours, CD production or movie production. These artists include The Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, Brad Pitt, Orlando Bloom, Elijah Wood, Coldplay, Sienna Miller, Jude Law, Leonardo DiCaprio, Bernardo Bertolucci and director of ‘The Day After Tomorrow’, Roland Emmerich.

They are aiming to achieve a significant slowdown in global warming by getting a billion people to reduce their CO2 emissions by an average of one tonne by 2017.

They are also aiming to support alternative energy projects around the world to develop a long-term energy answer.
They believe that using celebrities is the best way to get their message out there to the general public by making a bigger noise to turn more people into planet-savers. By mobilizing the people against global warming, Global Cool is aiming to make governments feel braver about making environmental legislation.

“Music, cinema and entertainment have long been global unifiers. Global Cool will utilise the powers of our high profile friends to help us deliver, in an uplifting and positive manner, the information that is right now so utterly crucial.”

This is not a public or personal endorsement, just something we should all be aware of. If you feel so inclined, you can make a donation through the website’s Donations Page.

A Carbon Footprint is a measure of the impact human activities have on the environment in terms of the amount of greenhouse gases produced, measured in units of carbon dioxide. You can calculate your footprint to see what impact you are having on the environment.
